- Garlic – the more the better. If you know me you know I love my garlic so go nuts!
- Butter – I always use unsalted because this way I can control the salt in all my recipes.
- Steak – I love using a sirloin steak in this recipe and cut it into small pieces. Sirloin packs a lot of flavor and it’s pretty tender, but still affordable.
- Olive Oil – extra virgin.
- Salt & Pepper – to season to your liking.
- Red Pepper Flakes – for a little bit of heat, so if you want it mild, just skip the pepper flakes.
- Parsley – I always love to garnish everything with a little bit of parsley because it makes the dish look so much better. We eat with our eyes first!
Garlic butter steak bites couldn’t be any easier. The secret though, is to use a really hot skillet, because you don’t want to overcook the steak. The steak bites really only require about 4 to 5 minutes, if the skillet is hot enough.
My other secret is to not stir the steak bites for the first 1 or 2 minutes, let it get a nice sear from the skillet. I also like to cook the garlic butter separately because I don’t want to add it with the steak, so that the garlic doesn’t burn. Then all that’s left to do is pour the garlic butter over the steak and serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
What cut of steak should I use for this recipe?

How can I tell when the steak bites are cooked to my desired doneness?
The cooking time will vary depending on the size of your steak bites and your preferred level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness: 125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, and 155°F for medium-well.

Expert Tips
- Make sure to pat the steak dry with paper towels before cutting into bite-sized pieces. This helps the steak to brown nicely and develop a delicious crust.
- Preheat the pan before adding the steak bites to ensure a good sear and even cooking.
- Cook the steak bites in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lead to steaming instead of browning.
- Allow the steak bites to rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain their juices and ensure a tender, flavorful result.
What To Serve Steak Bites With
Serve these with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, pasta or zucchini noodles for a healthier option, or just with some crusty bread to soak up that garlic butter.
However, they are perfect as an appetizer. Stick some toothpicks in them and watch how fast they go!
Storage
Store leftover steak bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave to retain their tenderness and flavor.

My husband asks for this recipe weekly. I heat a cast iron skillet in the oven. Once all the bites are seared on the stovetop, I broil the bites with the melted butter garlic for a couple of minutes. Absolutely one of the best steak recipes!
I made these tonight but added a small sprig of rosemary and thyme. I will be making this again. Thank you for adding another item to my menu
Adding rosemary and thyme to the steak bites sounds delicious! Glad to hear they’ll be a repeat dish on your menu.
Excellent quick recipe!
Lots of flavor! I went heavy on the garlic. Being a slow and crappy cook, I took too long with the garlic butter. Unfortunately my meat wasn’t very warm when it came to eating. If I were to do it again, I’d use two pans and make the garlic butter at the same time! Excellent recipe! Fast!!! Thanks!!
Glad you loved the Garlic Butter Steak Bites! Using two pans next time is a great idea to finish faster and keep everything warm.
Super easy and delicious
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is absolutely fantastic! The older I get the harder it is to eat steak. This is so delicious and tender. My husband loves it also, so that’s a bonus. It is super easy to make. If you haven’t tried it you are missing out!

My boyfriend is a picky eater and I didn’t grow up eating or cooking any meat. This was my first time cooking steak and it turned out perfectly! The instructions and notes at the bottom were so helpful for a first-timer like me.
I’ve just never used a cast iron pan before, so I ended up setting off the fire alarm! 🤣 But nonetheless, these came out perfectly and my boyfriend and I were very impressed. I served them with garlic smashed potatoes and everything was delicious. Thank you!!
Oh Lauren, what a story! Setting off the fire alarm is practically a rite of passage when cooking with a cast iron pan for the first time. 😂 I’m so glad to hear that the recipe was a hit, especially since it was your first time cooking steak! It sounds like you paired the steak bites perfectly with garlic smashed potatoes—what a delicious combo!

These were YUMMY! Great way to cook steak on the stove top. Served them over mashed potatoes with some stewed yellow squash. We will most definitely be making these a lot. Thank you for another great recipe!
Made this tonight. Smoked the hell outta the house with olive oil but steak turned out great. Adding butter and garlic last was a great idea. Next time may use oil with lesser smoke point. Thanks for the recipe.
I have actually made this recipe several times! My husband loves it! It’s a very nice update to just chicken, ground beef, and pasta-like dinners. This is has also been a great recipe for our 6 year old.
